Folk Curse Poppet

During routine maintenance on an aging barn, this makeshift doll was discovered hidden in the lofts. Unsure of who placed it there or why, the young farmer pried it from the wall and shared the find with his concerned family. His mother informed him that what he had discovered was a poppet, a powerful piece of magic intended to cause serious harm to the intended target.

After realizing the purpose of the rope doll, the farmer and his family prayed over the object before placing it in a bag and storing it in an unused tool drawer, where it sat for the next three decades. The poppet was recently rediscovered and gifted to the museum, where it provides a glimpse into American folk magic in its purest form.
